Senior Shine: Monroe girls stay unbeaten with 12-0 victory over Central

William Monroe’s girls soccer team have blown out almost every team they have faced this season. Hosting Central on Friday evening, the Dragons continued that trend of dominance, staying undefeated while cruising 12-0 past the Falcons.

In particular, the Monroe seniors showed out in the match, scoring all eight of the Dragons’ first half goals and accounting for nine of the team’s 12 total goals for the match.

“Just a great group of girls,” said Monroe head coach Jeremy Lamm. “They’re a well-knit group. They all work extremely well together.”

Mackenzie Sprouse started off the scoring with a goal from the left side just 65 seconds into the match to give Monroe a 1-0 lead. Sprouse finished with two goals, one of five players to score multiple goals in the game.

Sydney Dombrovskis scored the first of her three goals on a strike from the edge of the box just over ten minutes into the game to make it 2-0.

“I’m really proud,” Dombrovskis said of the performance of the seniors. “Tonight was about everyone but tonight I think we as a senior class did really well.”

Sarah Earle and Arianna Mosqueda added goals shortly after on shots taken well outside the box that found their mark over the Central goalkeeper’s head. Then, Dombrovskis scored her second goal on a thru ball that led her right to front of the Central goal.

“Size, strength, speed — she’s a coach’s dream,” said Lamm. “Against any competition, she just finds a way.”

Just over five minutes later, Elise Davis crossed it to Dombrovskis in front of the net, where she kicked it in to complete the hat trick.

“She’s probably the hardest working kid I’ve ever seen come through the program,” Lamm added.

Davis scored one for herself before Mackenzie Sprouse added her second goal to make it 8-0 heading into halftime. Junior Emma Dean was the first non-senior to tally a goal on an outside strike in the second half. Mosqueda scored her second goal less than a minute later, and then junior Sydney Devory scored two goals in less than a two-minute span to make it 12-0.

With the team firing on all cylinders, Dombrovskis and her teammates have lofty goals for their team this season.

“Keep playing like we did tonight, hopefully we’ll have another run for states,” Dombrovskis said. “We had that two years ago, I think we could have had it last year- Covid took that from us, but hopefully we’ll get that again this year.”

Up next, Monroe travels to play at Warren County on Tuesday evening.
