Monticello softball edges Albemarle

It wasn’t as easy this time around.

Almost a week after Monticello High’s softball team shutout Albemarle, the Mustangs had their hands full Tuesday night with the Patriots and barely managed to pull out a 3-2 victory over Albemarle.

The Patriots rallied with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, but Monticello held onto the 3-2 margin after building a 3-0 lead in the second and third innings.

Kaitlyn Bodine was solid at the plate and in the circle for the Mustangs, going 2 for 2 at the plate and striking out eight and surrendering just four hits as the pitcher for the Mustangs, including orchestrating a scoreless seventh to close out the win.

Lynley Price put together a 2-for-3 night at the plate for Monticello.

Emily McAllister sparked the rally for the Patriots with a pair of sixth inning RBIs. The freshman finished the night 1 for 2 at the plate with a walk and a steal in addition to her critical RBIs. Another freshman, Colleen Marshall and Alexis Steljes also went 1 for 2 at the plate for Albemarle.

Alania Peters checked in with a 1-for-3 outing and a pair of steals.

Ferin Lam pitched six innings and struck out four for Albemarle.
