Fork Union boys lacrosse holds off Covenant

 

Fork Union’s boys lacrosse program has been building steadily over the last few seasons and the Blue Devils took a big step forward Tuesday with a 14-17 win over Covenant, who won back-to-back state titles in 2014 and 2015.

 

Zach Miller poured in six goals on 10 shots to lead the Fork Union offense and dished out an assist as well. John Fraser posted a hat trick and two assists and David Greenspon scored twice and notched a trio of assists.

 

On defense, the Blue Devils got 10 saves from goalie John Hughes. Fork Union was also strong on faceoffs, enjoying an 18-7 advantage.

 

Covenant’s Luke Sorenson and Seth Leavell each had four goals while goalie Jude Steljes made 10 saves in the cage.

 

The Blue Devils will travel to take on Steward Thursday while Covenant travels to take on Hargrave the same day.
