After four years of printing Scrimmage Play, we’ve made the decision to dive headlong into the world of exclusively digital publishing. We’ve chosen this path because it will allow us to come out more frequently, tell more stories and do it in a more environmentally friendly way.

We started publishing an extended digital edition of the magazine solely for subscribers last year, and the response was fantastic. While we didn’t stack up subscribers, the digital was in high demand as it moved virally through the community via email, Facebook and Twitter with no promotion from us outside of the subscription program.

Eventually the digital’s readership, with no major promotion from us, had outpaced the print, proving that we could reach just as many — if not more — of you by converting to an entirely digital platform for the magazine. Now you can get the magazine, previously only available for pickup without a subscription, the day we finish it, giving us a chance to do timely, exciting pieces in the coming issues. You can view it on the computer, on your tablet or even on your smartphone now without a subscription as we do away with that program. You’ll get two issues per month now, packed with the same quality content you’ve come to expect over the years, and you can share it with whoever you want. We’ve also got some extras, particularly on our partner pages with links to videos and other great stuff.

But fear not, you can still get Scrimmage Play in print, it’s just available now in print-on-demand for a small fee. You simply order the print edition through our friends at MagCloud and it’ll be printed and shipped to your house. We’ve utilized and tested this service before on other projects and we’re confident in the quality it’ll produce should you choose to order a print copy of the magazine.

So here we are, celebrating our fifth year in publication while moving into this new chapter. We owe a lot of thanks to our partners like Downtown Athletic, Papa John’s, Dixon Disposal, Taylor’s Auto Body Shop, Fork Union, Triple C Camp, Blue Ridge, Grupp Dentistry, Hargrave Military Academy, St. Anne’s-Belfield and the Covenant School who’ve joined us in this transition. Thanks for trusting us with your brand and supporting us over the years, it’s a tremendous honor and you make our company’s very existence possible.

Lastly, thank you, readers, for following, reading and supporting us over the years. We’re proud to be a part of the Central Virginia high school sports community and we appreciate the opportunity to serve you. We hope you’ll join us in this new direction.
