William Monroe’s defense was seasoned coming into this year.

They’re now proving that they’re just as talented and capable as they are experienced, as the unit sparked the Dragons to a 31-7 dismantling of Central Woodstock Friday night.

Monroe’s defense held the Falcons to just 147 yards of total offense, just 80 of which came on the ground as the front seven simply dominated for Monroe.

On the other side of the ball, the Dragons’ productive ground game continued its recent assault on opposing defenses with the line paving the way for Cody Perkins’ 203-yard, two-touchdown night. Malik Mallory (43 yards and a touchdown on five carries) and Tylek Burley (14 yards and a touchdown plunge) also contributed on the ground.

That allowed Monroe to play to its strengths, letting a Josh King-led defense do much of the dirty work while the offense chewed up yards and the clock. Monroe needed just seven yards through the air to pick up the victory.

The win gives William Monroe some crucial momentum going into next week’s rivalry clash with Madison, the Battle of the Blue Ridge.
