Albemarle swipes CD mini-match

By posting four scores under 80, the Albemarle golf team was able to pick up its second Commonwealth District mini-match victory, with this victory coming at its home course at Birdwood. The Patriots finished a healthy 32 strokes ahead of second place Mountain View. The two schools spilt medalist honors with Albemarle’s Lauren Eklund and Mountain View’s Mason Stutler each posting a score of 1-over par 73.

Of the top five scores overall on the day, the Patriots owned four of them. Eklund and Stutler were chased by Caleb Martin who finished in third just two strokes behind at 75. Trailing Martin was Tony Liu who came in fourth with a 76. Wilson Desimini rounded out the top five for Albemarle with his round of 79.

The Wildcats have been the Patriots’ biggest adversary this season as the two schools split the first two mini-matches of the season. Albemarle took first by one stroke to beat Mountain View in the first district showdown, but the Wildcats finished ahead of the Patriots by seven strokes in the second tournament. By winning the final district match of the regular season by 32 strokes, Albemarle pulled in front of Mountain View in the final overall standings by 20 strokes to earn a Northwest Region bid which will be held in October.

Orange County took both fifth place in the third mini-match and overall in the standings. The Hornets saw three golfers shoot 85 or better. Brennen Richardson led the team with his 83, while Zac Yowell and Jake Eheart were right behind with respective scores of 84 and 85.
