After two narrow wins over Collegiate and Landon the last two weeks, Woodberry Forest was due for a blow out, and they got it Saturday at home against Benedictine, crushing the Cadets 41-7.
The Tigers’ lockdown defense held Benedictine’s attack to just 156 total yards, 19 on the ground and another 137 on the air. A big chunk of that total came on a 36-yard pass in the third quarter for Benedictine’s lone touchdown. Before that score Woodberry (6-1) was already up 41-0.
Heys McMath, who continues to emerge as a solid quarterback for the Tigers’ increasingly dynamic offense, threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns on 10-for-15 passing and also scored on a 6-yard run in the second quarter.
Carlson Milikin didn’t haul in many catches, but he made the most of both of them, going for 67 yards on 42-yard and 25-yard touchdowns in the first half. Joe Miller also got in on the act, with four catches for 57 yards including a touchdown from Jacob Rainey, Woodberry’s other option at quarterback. Rainey also had a rushing touchdown, rumbling in from 34 yards out.
Woodberry only picked up 104 yards on the ground, with Rainey actually leading the way with 60 yards total on five carries.
The Tigers are coming down the stretch with just a pair of games left. They hit the road to take on St. Christopher’s next Saturday, then get a week off because of a cancellation with Oak Ridge (N.C.) before the beyond-huge battle with archrival Episcopal.
