Woodberry Forest golf wins VISAA state title

Behind a co-individual champion effort from Andrew Jacobs, Woodberry Forest golf won the VISAA Division I title Monday at Meadowbrook Country Club.

Jacobs carded a 70 to tie St. Anne’s-Belfield golfer Sam McNamara for the individual champion and the state’s player of the year honor.

The Tigers held off Prep League rival St. Christopher’s by just four strokes, with Woodberry logging a 293 as a team while St. Chris checked in with a 297 to earn the runner-up spot. Woodson Smith’s 73 and Benny Haggin’s 74 played a big role in the Tigers’ win and earned the tandem, along with Jacobs
