Despite a strong night on the ground, William Monroe’s football team fell 37-13 Friday to Broadway.
The Dragons (0-2) piled up 339 yards on the ground, but the defense struggled to contain the Gobblers’ Logan Wolfe who scored twice and rushed for 189 yards. Tristen Boyer also had a strong night for Broadway at receiver with 72 yards on seven catches. Jesse Layne threw for 94 yards for the Gobblers
A big chunk of Monroe’s yardage came from Tyler Trevillian’s 99-yard touchdown run and the senior finished with 178 yards on just six touches. Anthony Pritchett also got in on the act with 70 yards on six carries for Monroe.
The Gobblers clearly focused on clamping down Monroe quarterback Malique Shackleford, limiting him to 36 yards on 11 carries and just 19 yards through the air.
Monroe (0-2) will look to bounce back Friday against Charlottesville when the Dragons welcome the Black Knights to Stanardsville.
