Western volleyball makes it 10 in a row

Another year, another title.

Western Albemarle’s volleyball team made it a decade-long streak at the top of the Jefferson District heap with a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-18, 25-19) of Powhatan last night. The win sealed Western’s 10th straight JD regular season title.

The Warriors also earned a Region II playoff bid with the victory, though one regular season battle on the road with Fluvanna remains on Tuesday.

Katie Rossberg, who’s become a more versatile presence for the Warriors in every game this year, had 10 kills, an ace and 18 digs to help boost Western to the win. Maggie Kooken exploded for 13 kills in the sweep while Laura Bergin posted nine kills and an ace. Peyton Brookins rounded out the stellar front line performance with a trio of blocks.

Along the back line, Marin Crowder had 12 digs while setter Riley Martin dished out 33 assists.

Western and Fluvanna lock up Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday before the Jefferson District tournament gets started.
