Western boys drop Amelia

Western Albemarle boys basketball team grabbed its first win of the season Friday night with a 64-57 win over Amelia County.

Ben Turner led The Warriors with 17 points while Alec Meyers chipped in 13 points on the night. Western pulled away in the fourth at the free throw line after Amelia cut the lead to just three points during the final frame.

Jake Nidiffer, returning from an injury suffered late in football season where the senior plays wide receiver, pulled down eight boards.

The Raiders boasted a small but athletic group of athletes, putting Western’s big men into some tough matchups on the defensive end. Turner’s proficiency underneath, however, proved an advantage for the Warriors.
