Western baseball got off to a strong start in Jefferson District play with a 10-5 road victory over Powhatan Friday.
The Warriors got a solid first five innings from Jack Maynard, who shut out the Indians through those first five frames. Eli Sumpter took over in the middle of the sixth and retired the side in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts in the last inning.
Dylan Weiss, Henry Kreienbaum and Harrison Lund had two hits each with Weiss ringing up three RBI. Logan Ebanks, Maynard, Steven Mangrum and John Mark Mastakas also had RBI.
Western moved to 2-0 on the season.
