VHSL realignment plan adopted for 2015-2017

The VHSL released its final recommended Conference Alignment plan that starts in 2015 yesterday, and it was approved by the Executive Committee Thursday, making it official.

Here’s the breakdown for local squads.

Fluvanna County will officially make the biggest move locally, shifting down a Division from 4A to 3A where they’ll be one of the largest schools. They don’t get many other favors though as the enter the largest conference in 3A-West by two teams, Conference 29. That’s home to Western Albemarle and Monticello again in addition to Broadway, Fort Defiance, Spotswood, Turner Ashby and Waynesboro.

Albemarle and Orange County stay in Conference 16 as part of the 5A North Region, but they add two new members to expand to a six-team conference, with Atlee and Patrick Henry-Roanoke joining Patrick Henry-Ashland and Halifax as the other four members.

Louisa County is moving over the 4A East Region where they’ll be a part of Conference 19. The Lions were previously in Conference 23 in the West Jefferson District foe Charlottesville, but now they’ll face Caroline, Chancellor, Courtland, King George and Eastern View in 19. The Black Knights stay in the 4A West, with Jefferson Forest, G.W. Danville, E.C. Glass and Amherst making up the six-team conference.

William Monroe will stay in Conference 28, which now welcomes James Monroe to the mix after a move during the August 11 Alignment Committee meeting. Brentsville, Culpeper, Manassas Park, Riverside, Skyline and Warren County round out that eight-team conference.

Madison remains in Conference 35, a five-team unit with Central Woodstock, Clarke County, George Mason and Strasburg. The tandem of Luray and Page that used to be grouped with Madison has split, with Page heading to Conference 36 and Luray bumping down a group to 1A where they’ll join Conference 44.

Nelson is part of an adjusted Conference 36, with Buffalo Gap, East Rockingham, R.E. Lee-Staunton, Page, Stuarts Draft and Wilson Memorial. Buckingham stays in Conference 37 with Appomattox, Chatham, Dan River, Gretna and Randolph-Henry forming the six-team core that’s an intact carry over from 2013-2015’s plan. Goochland is in Conference 34, a seven-team conference with Amelia, Bluestone, Brunswick, Greensville, Nottoway and Prince Edward. That’s also an intact unit from the previous plan.
