STAB’s White signs to play with Michigan

After a year in which he managed to slug an astounding 1.324 and hit 11 homeruns and drive in 41 RBIs in just 23 games, everyone in the Central Virginia baseball community knew that St. Anne’s-Belfield’s Kevin White was going to be playing baseball at the next level. White put end to all questions regarding his collegiate future on Thursday as he is officially going to Ann Arbor after signing a national letter of intent to play for the University of Michigan.

“Kevin is very physical,” Wolverines coach Rich Maloney told mgoblue.com. “He played in the East Coast Professional Showcase. He played at a high level in summer baseball so he’s traveled all around playing. He has power; he runs well, has a strong arm and was very highly recruited. We’re just elated to have him join us. I think he has a great future ahead of him.”

White is considered one of the top prospects in the state of Virginia, earning a rank as high as fourth according to Perfect Game, and cracking the top-150 players in the country at 142.

“Kevin is a true student athlete who is a great fit academically and athletically for the University of Michigan,” said STAB coach Alan Swanson.

Last season White as integral part of a Saints team that was perfect in the regular season and did not lose until the VISAA Division 1 semifinals to eventual champion Benedictine. In addition to being Scrimmage Play’s 2010 co-player of the year, White took home first team All-Prep League and All-VISAA for the third year in a row.

White also helped the Albemarle Post 74 American Legion baseball team earn a spot in the 2009 state championship.
