Spring Roundup 3.20.17: AHS girls soccer, softball, baseball pick up wins

Albemarle’s girls soccer team finally got a game in, and the Patriots wasted little time registering a goal, scoring just 27 seconds into the game on a Brooke Bauman goal to take control against Charlottesville en route to a 5-0 victory over the Black Knights.

 

Bauman, Abigail Gonzalez and Makinna Winterton finished with a goal and an assist each while Katie Schnell and Madison Kersey each had a goal. Leticia Frietas and Gracie Williams had an assist each.

 

Catie Grebe and Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper combined in goal for the shutout for the Patriots, who play Mountain View Thursday.

 

Adria Cafferillo had 10 saves for the Black Knights in goal, a big performance for the freshman keeper against the Patriots’ electric offense.

 

Albemarle baseball drops Charlottesville

Albemarle’s baseball team moved to 2-0 on the season Monday with a 13-1, five-inning win over Charlottesville on the road.

 

Aiden McClune picked up the win on the mound for the Patriots while Nathan Toney, Jake Browning and Alex Petroka had two hits each to power the Albemarle offense.

 

The Patriots travel to take on Culpeper Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. while the Black Knights host James Monroe Tuesday night.

 

AHS softball storms past Charlottesville

Albemarle’s softball team rolled 21-0 past Charlottesville Monday afternoon, rapping out 16 hits as a team with several Patriots posting big days at the plate.

 

Ellie Cain exploded for two doubles and a triple while Logan Friesen had three hits on the day. Kasie Pace hit a grand slam for Albemarle as well.

 

In addition to her big day at the plate, Cain snagged the win in the circle in four innings of work, surrendering just three hits and a walk.

 

Other Scores

William Monroe baseball beat Brentsville 7-2. William Monroe softball edged Brentsville 1-0. Goochland boys soccer beat Randolph Henry 4-1.
