Scott’s huge day leads Fluvanna softball to win over Albemarle

It’s fairly safe to say that Fluvanna County’s softball team is seeing the ball well this week. Coming off a 21-run showing against Charlottesville on Monday, the Flucos saw Alexis Scott explode to lead her team to a 14-1 win over a quality Albemarle squad.

Scott went off for three extra-base hits and seven RBI in three at-bats. The first baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the second inning, a 3-run triple in the third inning and a 2-run double in the fourth to account for half her team’s runs. Leadoff hitter Ashleigh Harris had an RBI single in the third and fouth as well. Brooke Herndon and Alex Fields plated a runner each in the fourth on a singles. Tara Foster was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third and then came through with an RBI single in the fourth. Lauren Hamshaw added an RBI groundout also in the fourth to round out the scoring for the Flucos.

Albemarle’s Coleen Marshall provided Albemarle’s lone piece of scoring offense with a home run in the bottom of the fourth.

Pitching five innings and earning the complete game win for Fluvanna was Fields who struck out five Albemarle batters.

For the Patriots, Caroline Porco, Lindsay Chaney, Alexis Stjelgis and Kaitlin Keane came up with a hit each.
