Patriots girls tennis handles Stafford for season sweep

Completing its eighth sweep in nine Commonwealth District matches, the Albemarle girls tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Stafford on Thursday night.

Using their regular lineup, the Patriots top-5 earned quick wins while Ivy Haines got a good test in the sixth spot before pulling away late. Haines battled point-for-point with her opponent get to as high as 7-6 before she shut the door 10-6.

“I got frustrated with myself at points,” Haines said. “Especially when I lost two straight games. But I tried not to let that get to me and stayed focused.”

Tori Kuhn and Elise Lord also were tested early in their doubles match, but just like Haines did prior in the match, the two keyed on their play and finished off the match 10-6.

Albemarle (10-1, 9-0 Commonwealth) hosts Colonial Forge on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
