Orange County’s baseball team got on track in the Jefferson District with the Hornets’ first win in district play Wednesday night.
Orange run-ruled Charlottesville 12-1 behind a strong performance on the mound by Antonio Murphy. Murphy struck out 10 in the six-inning complete game, allowing just a single unearned run when CHS’s Wade Kammauff scored in the third.
Orange’s lineup got going in a big way in the second inning with a six-run explosion, kickstarted by a pair of back-to-back singles by Jacob Haney and Murphy. Trevor Coleman, Dalton Jobe, Logan Douglas and Garret Johnson also had hits in the frame, with Johnson ripping a double.
After a couple of quiet innings, the Hornets put the game away with a five-run sixth inning that included a triple by Murphy who continued a whale of a game by the senior.
The Hornets host Powhatan Thursday night in another Jefferson District clash.
