It was simple for Nelson County.
“We got the train back on the tracks,” said Governors coach Mark Wells.
The Governors got the ground game going after a string of tough losses and trounced Hargrave 50-18.
It didn’t start off that way though. The Tigers took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, putting Nelson on its heels.
From there the Governors’ offense took control, as Tyler Vest put together a 188-yard, four-touchdown performance on the ground. The senior quarterback was efficient, gaining his 188 on just 17 carries. Vest even tossed in an 85-yard kick return for a touchdown for good measure.
Devonte Turner ground it out too in the rushing attack, piling up 186 yards and three touchdowns on 21 touches.
“We put a few more athletes on the field and let them fly around,” Wells said.
Nelson gets into Dogwood District play next week when the Governors take on Appomattox on the road.
