Monticello’s volleyball team advanced to the Conference 29 semifinals with a 3-0 sweep of Fluvanna in the quarterfinals Monday night.

Monticello’s hitters came out strong with Zimako Chuks and Hannah Green combining for 30 kills on the night. The kills matched with the 30 assists by Allie Perez as the senior setter led the Mustangs throughout the night.

The first set ended at a seven-point victory for Monticello, 25-18. Catching the Flucos off-guard, Monticello built off of their game one momentum.

Fluvanna gave everything they had in the second set, fighting to keep their season alive. Freshman Christina Walker aided the Flucos’ rally with six kills, but Fluvanna couldn’t do enough to overcome Monticello as Fluvanna dropped the second set 25-22.

The Mustangs sensed victory after the Flucos dropped a second straight set. They rolled through the final game, 25-20, to complete the sweep and advance to the Conference 29 semifinals against top-seeded Western Albemarle (19-5-2) Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Fluvanna’s season ends, and senior leaders Kate Stutz and Haley Dillon’s volleyball careers come to a close.
