Behind 18 aces the Monticello volleyball team was able bounce back from its loss to Powhatan with a win against Charlottesville, a 3-0 sweep, 25-20, 25-8, 25-7.
The Mustangs had an early battle with the Black Knights in the first set as the game was tied at 10-10 but broke away after that to claim a 5-point lead at 17-12 and hold on to it to go up 1-0.
The second and third games saw Monticello claim early 6-point leads. In the second set that lead was inflated to 11 quickly followed by small CHS push, but the Mustangs finished with the last seven points to go up 2-0.
Game three started with six straight Monticello points and the Mustangs rode the momentum from the game two finish to its strongest set of the night, never letting Charlottesville close than its original lead.
On the night for Monticello, Trystam Carr had eight aces and nine digs. Brittany Scott and Molly Relken tied on offense with seven kills. Setter Mariah Williams had 16 assists to go with five kills and six aces. Charlotte Devine had four aces and three kills.
The Mustangs (8-2, 1-1) travel to Albemarle on Thursday.
