Monroe girls fall to Skyline

Without the services of junior Alex Cave over the last three games, William Monroe hasn’t been too bad in the first half. But in each second half, the Dragons have struggled to find their stride and hold off the opposition.

Wednesday night’s 53-33 loss to Skyline was a similar story as Monroe’s Jefferson District semifinal loss to Charlottesville — close first half, frustrating second half.

The Dragons actually got 4-5 minutes of playing time out of Cave before the junior was aggravated her previous injury, and trailed by just eight at the break.

But in the second half, Skyline started pulling away and even an energetic push in the fourth couldn’t get Monroe back in it.

Summer Tarpley led Monroe with nine points on the night and Katelyn Roach chipped in with six.
