William Monroe is replacing a slew of senior starters and breaking in a new offense, so there’s bound to be some growing pains for the Dragons.

In the squad’s opener though they took Brentsville to the brink before falling 12-9 in overtime.

The Dragons had a hard time containing Brentsville’s Zack Yates as he got loose for 154 yards and a touchdown on 17 touches. He accounted for the bulk of the Brentsville offense, with Donovan Hollins chipping in 42 yards on 10 carries.

The Dragons got a solid performance from Malique Shackleford, who finished with 110 yards and a touchdown on the ground while throwing for 80 yards on 5-for-15 passing.

Malik Mallory also got in on the act with 33 yards on nine touches.

Defensively, Tyler Trevillians picked off a pass and raced 80 yards on the return.

William Monroe (0-1) will look to bounce back against Broadway next week on the road.
