There are a lot of banners at Alumni Gym for basketball. But for the girls, the most recent ones have state runnerup on them. Those won’t bother them anymore as the Mavericks rode a strong second half to a 45-27 victory over Williamsburg Christian in the VISAA Division 3 championship game.
Miller held their opponent to just six field goals but was tied at 12 with the Eagles at the half before putting together a big second half. The top seeded Mavericks beat all of their state tournament opponents by double digits.
As they have all year, Ashley Bowles, Whitney Martin and Ruta Lizdenyte led the way with each scoring 11, 12 and 12 points respectively.
