Madison boys rid surge in second half to beat Woodstock

Madison County set up what projects to be an incredible start to next week as they defeated Central Woodstock 72-62. That sets the table for the Mountaineers home game with Bull Run District and longtime rival William Monroe.

Both teams battled in the first half with the score tied after the first quarter and Madison ahead by just one point at halftime. That lead faded early in the third quarter as the Falcons took a three point lead but a run from the Mountaineers turned the tide for good as the took a 10-point lead into the fourth. Up by as many as 14, Central was never able to get closer than within eight points.

The Mountaineers (3-4, 2-0) got 25 points from Travis Warren and 17 points from its rising talent in the post, Matt Temple. Patrick Roebuck finished with nine points.

The big showdown with the Dragons, also 2-0 in BRD play, is on Tuesday in Madison at 7:30 p.m.
