Kreienbaum steps in, Western drops Fluvanna County

With Sam Hearn out of the lineup after suffering an injury last week against Louisa County, Western Albemarle turned to Henry Kreienbaum to pilot the offense against Fluvanna County Friday night.

He was up to the task.

The senior, who’s filled in admirably in the past, posted a strong performance in a 48-14 victory over the Flucos that kept Western unbeaten in Jefferson District play. Kreienbaum threw for 85 yards and a touchdown on a 3-for-3 passing night. He also rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns on just nine touches.

Kreienbaum’s effort and another strong night from Oliver Herndon (145 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries) helped stake Western to a 41-7 halftime lead. Kreienbaum’s touchdown pass came early in the second quarter when he connected with Noah Yourkavitch for a 45-yard catch and run.

Western rolled up 366 yards of total offense to the Flucos’ 67 offensive yards.

The Warriors’ defense forced three turnovers, including a pair of interceptions. Derek Domecq also scooped up a loose punt that Noah Crutchfield blocked and returned it for a touchdown during a 28-point second quarter.

Jay Amos scored both Fluvanna County touchdowns, unleashing an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown early in the second quarter. He also hauled in a 6-yard touchdown pass from Gavin Patrick with 4:32 to play.

Fluvanna hits the road to take on Powhatan next week while Western travels to take on Charlottesville.
