In a half, Blue Ridge coasts past Hargrave

Blue Ridge only got a half of football in travelling to Hargrave Friday night due to lighting issues at the Tigers’ home field. But it was an awfully good half for the Barons and they wrapped up a 26-6 victory in the process to move to 2-0.

A big reason for that big first half was Xavier Kane and his budding connection with Michael Asher. Kane twice found Asher in the first quarter for long touchdown passes, connecting from 64 and then 52 yards out for a quick 12-0 Blue Ridge lead.

Kane then ran for an 8-yard touchdown and connected with Savion Helm on a third from 28 yards out. Kane piled up 335 yards of total offense in the first half, 265 of it through the air on 10-for-20 passing without a single pick. Asher had 157 yards and two touchdowns on three catches.

Joey Szabo led the defense with four solo stops while Spencer Glenn had six total tackles including two for a loss.

The Barons (2-0) get a big opportunity Saturday on the road against a talented Flint Hill squad at 1:30 p.m.
