Goochland volleyball’s players may be young—three of the Bulldogs’ top players are sophomores — but the squad is finding a way to get the job done.
Against Cumberland Wednesday, sophomore Taylor Scruggs ripped off a school record 21-straight service points to boost the Bulldogs to a 3-0 victory. Scruggs’ run broke Karen Stump’s school record of 15-straight set back in 2005.
Cumberland struggled to pass all night, and Goochland took advantage, winning easily 25-9, 25-19 and 25-6. Sophomore Jordan Fleming had 12 assists and four aces while classmates Chelsea Donaldson and Scruggs also came up with three aces each.
The Bulldogs followed that with another 3-0 sweep Tuesday night in their Jefferson District opener.
Goochland rolled past Charlottesville 25-16, 25-13 and 25-17.
Fleming had eight assists and three aces in the win while Chelsea Pavona had a pair of aces and two kills. Donaldson got in on the act with seven digs, three kills and three aces.
