Goochland football runs over Bluestone

Another week, another breakout performance in the backfield. It’s not exactly a new trend for Goochland coach Joe Fowler. Thanks to 296 rushing yards on just 37 attempts, the Bulldogs were able to roll past Bluestone in its James River District opener with a 28-16 victory.

While David Dyer racked up 97 yards on the ground on his 15 carries, it was Daric Clarke who wound up stealing the show with 157 yards on 14 rushes. Goochland took a 14-0 lead on the Barons starting with an 11-yard rushing TD from Clarke followed by a 33-yard touchdown pass from Reid Chenault to Cephas Harden.

After Bluestone got on the board to make it 14-8, the Bulldogs responded with a 4-yard rushing strike from Dyer to reclaim the two possession lead. In the fourth quarter, Goochland put the game out of reach on 1-yard TD run from Dyer. The Barons tacked on a touchdown in the final four minutes.

Rounding out the stats for Goochland was Taivon Fox who added 39 yards on just three attempts. Defensively Nate Parrish and Akia Timberlake were busy, finishing with 11 and 10 tackles respectively. Parrish had a sack and six of Timberlake’s tackles were for a loss.

Goochland (2-1, 1-0) plays its third straight game at home with Randolph Henry up next on Friday at 7 p.m.
