Gentry has all-around game to propel Monroe baseball past Clarke

It didn’t take long for Jordan Gentry to find his stride. Having made just one start this season and pitched only five innings coming into Tuesday’s matchup with William Monroe hitting the road against Clarke County, the senior went the distance to lead the Dragons to a 2-0 win over the Eagles.

“We left too many runners on base with eight hits and nine left on base, but it was really good to get a Bull Run District win on the road,” said Monroe coach Mike Maynard. “We both came in unbeaten in the district and so we were happy to get out of there with a win.”

Gentry struck out 10 batters and gave up just three hits in the seven inning complete game victory. Ryan Leake provided the first run on a double hit off the centerfield fence that brought home Gentry who singled earlier. Jacob Hirtz provided an RBI groundout in the fifth.

Spencer Breeden and Gentry were each 2 for 3 on the night. Gentry also stole a pair of bases.

Monroe (7-1, 3-0) hosts George Mason on April 11th at 7 p.m.
