Charlottesville field hockey advances past Spotsylvania

Charlottesville High didn’t have the fast start it wanted against Spotsylvania Monday night in the Black Knights’ Conference 23 quarterfinal match, but they did enough early in the second half to survive and advance.

The Black Knights shut out Spotsylvania 2-0 to move on to the Conference 23 semifinals.

Kendall Ballard got the scoring going just over two minutes into the second half, scoring off a Carolina Clark assist on a short corner. Just over three minutes later, Kendal Dowdell tacked on another goal, scoring off a Lily Sosa feed.

From there Charlottesville held on to beat Spotsylvania and move on.

The Black Knights are now just one win away from advancing to the region tournament, with Culpeper looming Tuesday night at 6 p.m. after the Blue Devils beat Monticello 4-0.
