For a number of years, Charlottesville and the surrounding counties have been an under-recruited area in football. That’s become par for the course because of a lack of information about our area players and the fact that many don’t understand what it takes to reach that level. That doesn’t mean the talent isn’t there.

But what it takes to get there remains something of a mystery. At Scrimmage Play we continue to try and impact the area high school sports community here and the perception of this area outside our counties. In that vein, we’ve decided to partner with Athelite Factory, a training program dedicated to high school and college athletes, to start the Central Virginia Elite Combine, set for Sunday, April 1 with sign-in starting at 1 p.m. at Monticello High School. The CVEC, which has its roots in the combine that Joe Sanford, Athelite Factory’s founder, held last spring, will work as both a traditional combine and a teaching opportunity as well as a chance for local athletes to understand where they currently stand and where they need to be. They’ll run the 40-yard dash, do the broad jump, speed shuttle and L-drill.

We’re going to take the information that we collect and build a Central Virginia Recruiting Prospectus, a digital product that will be available for print purchase and will be emailed to every college football coach and position coach in the state as well as a number outside the Virginia borders. We’ve been mailing a number of these guys the regular magazine already so some have a familiarity with the product already.

We’d like to invite any rising 9th through 12th grader who thinks they may at some point want to play college football or any other college sport to attend– the kind of information we’re collecting can be used in a number of different recruiting settings. This could be a fantastic opportunity to learn and workout in this kind of environment that’s usually only available in Richmond, Virginia Beach or Northern Virginia. We think this can be the start of a series of events in the area that helps promote Central Virginia Football and many other sports.

The cost of the combine is $40, which includes a listing in the prospectus and two runs through the combine process as well as group instruction between the runs.

Thanks again for your interest and we hope to see you at the Central Virginia Elite Combine. The pre-registration form is below. Payment should be made at the combine.
