Buckingham piles up yards in Cumberland blowout

It’s official. Buckingham has a well-established three-headed monster opponents will have to contend with in the ground game.

A week after Kenneth Johnson, Tarian Ayers and Kyree Koonce rushed for 100 or more yards each, the trio came together to rush for 445 yards and seven touchdowns as a team in a 63-20 thrashing of Cumberland.

Buckingham now sits at 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the James River District.

Johnson led the way with 206 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries. Ayers rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns on 12 touches to bolster the effort. Koonce finished with 122 all-purpose yards with nine total touches. Koonce also had a pair of touchdowns and notched a two-point conversion.

The Knights held Devonta Booker to just 47 yards on the ground for Cumberland while Dukes quarterback Bryant Winbush threw for 171 yards but threw a pair of interceptions. Winbush mostly went to Rashawn Sims, who hauled in 149 yards on five catches.

The victory sets up a critical clash with Goochland next week for the Knights.
