Buckingham falls to Cumberland in first loss of season

Devonte Booker has been throwing up huge numbers for Cumberland the past few years and Friday night against Buckingham County was no exception.

This time, he also got the victory as Cumberland beat the Knights 74-46.

Last season Booker unleashed a 50-point outing against Buckingham last year in a loss. Friday he poured in 32 in the victory, which helped Cumberland overcome the Knights’ pair of double double performances by Tarian Ayers and Cam Johnson.

Ayers finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson scored 13 and hauled in 10 boards.

But Buckingham’s 20 turnovers and shooting just 26 percent from the field clearly sunk the Knights.

Timmy Randolph managed eight rebounds on the night for the Knights.

The loss was Buckingham’s first on the year as they slip to 6-1.
