Buckingham falls in James River boys semifinal to Bluestone

Bluestone had the most balanced offense and the best interior defense Tuesday night in the James River District semifinals and that lifted the Barons to a 71-55 over Buckingham.

The Barons, seeded No. 1 in the James River tournament, had a trio of double-digit scorers with Damian Winbush finishing with 15, Dashawn Pamplin matching Winbush’s total and Keith Patrick notching 13. Those three helped Bluestone build an 11-point first half lead that proved insurmountable for the Knights on the road.

Bluestone also finished with 19 blocks as a team, with Devin Roberts’ six rejections setting the pace.

Fourth-seeded Buckingham’s Leon Ragland finished with 15 points to lead the Knights in scoring and Justin Ayres pulled in 22 rebounds on the night. But it wasn’t enough to overcome Bluestone.

Buckingham now turns its attention to the Conference 37 tournament next week.
