Albemarle volleyball stumbles in region quarters

Albemarle High’s volleyball team picked a tough time of year to get out of sync.

The Patriots put together a repeat performance of last week’s Commonwealth District tournament loss to Colonial Forge in a 3-0 loss Tuesday night to Heritage High in he Northwest Region quarterfinals.

Albemarle struggled to put together a long stretch of solid play against the Pride, falling 25-9, 25-14 and 25-15.

The Patriots in particular had a rough time at the net defensively where they had just one block and then at the service line where they missed on 10 serves.

Megan Napolitano and Stephanie Strauss had seven kills each on the night and Napolitano led all servers with four service points and two aces.

One bright spot on the night came as Jessie Block broke another school record that has stood for over 20 years, ending the season with a 98.2 percent service percentage, surpassing Carrie Copony’s 98.1 percent from back in 1989.  In addition, Napolitano eclipsed the 400 kills mark on the evening, becoming the first Patriot to break this mark.

The Patriots end their season at 18-10.
