Albemarle softball wins two in weekend tournament

Albemarle High’s softball squad moved to 3-0 on the year with a pair of victories over Monticello and Spotswood in William Monroe’s weekend tournament.

The Patriots knocked off Monticello Friday night with a 7-0 victory, with Lindsay Chaney knocking in two RBI on a 2 for 3 night at the plate. Chaney also threw seven innings, striking out four and surrendering just three hits to the Mustangs.

Caroline Porco, Emily McAllister and Alexis Stjelgis all knocked in a run each. Porco went 2 for 3 on the night as did McAllister. Stjelgis went 3 for 4 and scored two runs including a pair of doubles.

The Patriots then rolled 13-3 against Spotswood on Saturday with McAllister in the circle. McAllister struck out four and gave up eight hits.

Colleen Marshall led the way offensively with four RBI on a 3 for 4 outing including a triple. Chaney also got in on the act with three RBI, going 2 for 2 with a double and a single.

The Patriots return to action Tuesday when they take on Massaponax on the road.
