Albemarle’s softball squad slipped up for the first time this season Thursday night, falling 3-2 on the road to Riverbend, though the Patriots didn’t go down without a fight.
Albemarle fell behind by three after four innings, but the Patriots managed to scratch together a couple of runs including one in the seventh and actually managed to out-hit the Bears, but Riverbend eeked out the win. McKenzie Swanson had the Patriots’ lone RBI, while Lindsay Chaney had the only multi-hit night with a 2 for 3 performance at the plate that included a double. Chaney threw six innings in the circle too, striking out six while surrendering seven hits.
Brooke Perdue had a two-RBI night and went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead Riverbend while Tyler Thomas managed to hold Albemarle in check with 10 strikeouts while scattering eight hits.
Albemarle is now 4-1 on the season.
