Albemarle knocks off Riverbend

Lee Carneal found the weak spots in Riverbend’s defense and came up with three long touchdown passes against the Bears to help spark Albemarle to a 23-21 victory, Albemarle’s first in the Commonwealth since late in 2008.

Carneal put the Patriots on the board first with a 50-yard pass to Tim Aker, and Joe Anderson added a 38-yard field goal in the second quarter to give Albemarle a 10-0 halftime lead.

Anderson hit two of his three extra point attempts too and also led the Patriots in rushing with 75 yards on 11 carries.

Riverbend did bounce back in the third quarter with Rufonda Moss scoring from 18 and three yards out in the frame to jump ahead 14-10.

Carneal struck again though and put the Patriots back up with a 40-yard toss to Tory Key. Moss had one more in his tank though and came up with a 3-yard touchdown. Carneal managed one more counterpunch though, finding Key again, this time from 65 yards out, to put Albemarle up for good 23-21.

Albemarle is now .500 on the year at 3-3 and currently sit at 1-2 in the Commonwealth.
