Albemarle baseball grabs a road win

Albemarle doesn’t have many games left in Commonwealth District play, but the Patriots have certainly made the second half of league play interesting. They continued that trend with a 3-2 victory over Massaponax Friday, a victory that pushed Albemarle to 6-5 in CD play.

Jake Hendrix pitched five innings for the win. Timmy Aker pitched the 6th & 7th for the save.

Jacob Borenstein went 1 for 2 with an rbi, two steals and two runs. Aker had a solid night at the plate highlighted by a towering home run to left field. Joey Varaksa, who’s stabilized the Patriots by moving behind the plate at catcher, made a big defensive play in the seventh, throwing out the tying baserunner trying to steal second.

The Patriots hit the road Tuesday for a 5 p.m. battle with Stafford High.
