Albemarle baseball falls to C.D. Hylton

Albemarle baseball managed a pair of wins with its back against the wall the last two weeks, but Monday night in the Northwest Region quarterfinals, the Patriots came up just short, falling 7-5 to C.D. Hylton on the road.

Despite a two-run homerun each from Timmy Aker and Zach Evans, the Patriots couldn’t overcome Hylton and UVa commitment Alex Bettiman who threw for Hylton, the Cardinal District’s regular season champion.

Last week, Albemarle beat G.W. Danville 1-0 to set up the battle with Hylton. Joe Burris pitched a complete game two-hitter and struck out 11 against G.W. Aker had an RBI single in the top of the first to plate the team’s lone run.

In the game in Danville, the Patriots faced another solid pitcher, Blake Bivens, who struck out five while Albemarle had six hits.

The loss to Hylton ends the season for the Patriots.
