With the postseason starting, William Monroe girls basketball knew the Dragons needed to feed Ella Weaver to keep things moving.

William Monroe did just that and with 22 points from the Buffalo bound senior, beat James Monroe 57-43 in the Region 3B quarterfinals Friday night.

Weaver finished with a triple double, notching 15 rebounds and 10 assists to go with those 22 points while also snagging three steals.

William Monroe came out of the gate fast on offense but James Monroe kept pace and trailed just 16-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Dragons’ defense clamped down though and held the Jackets to just five second quarter points while Weaver had eight of her 22 in the frame. At halftime it was 30-18 William Monroe. James Monroe struggled to cut the lead completely down after that.

Karlee Martin finished with 11 points and five rebounds on the night while Kayla Britton had 12 points. McKinley Carpenter scored eight points and added four boards, three assists and two steals. Annabelle Critzer had four points and three assists and Avery Shifflett chipped in four rebounds.

The Dragons now head north to take on Meridian High Tuesday night in the Region 3B semifinals, a squad that won 55-33 and 55-20 over William Monroe during the regular season. The winner earns a state tournament berth.
