Madison County’s boys basketball team had to battle it out in a defensive struggle with Central Woodstock, but the Mountaineers were up for the task Thursday night.

Madison beat Central 53-48 in the Region 2B semifinals, locking up a state tournament berth and a spot in the Region 2B championship game against Strasburg Saturday night at Shenandoah University.

Seth McLearen and Leroy Yates put together two particularly efficient offensive nights to power the Mountaineers. Both players went 6-for-11 from the field individually with  McLearen scoring 17 points while grabbing three boards. Yates scored 15 and had three rebounds of his own.

Bryce Breeden set the table all night with eight assists for Madison while also chipping in six points and four rebounds. Wade Fox was an efficient 4-for-5 from the field and notched eight points and four rebounds. Billy Acton had three steals and Max Lohr had four rebounds.
