Monticello boys lacrosse’s offense took a few minutes to get rolling, but once the Mustangs settled in they rolled Tuesday night, beating Fluvanna County 15-4 in the Region 4A quarterfinals.

The Mustangs got five goals from senior Lucas Garrett and he was particularly efficient on the night, needing just seven shots to tally those five goals. Fellow senior Jerry Arriaga-Ruiz finished with four goals to round out the bulk of the Mustangs’ offense.

The Mustangs’ passing was on point all night and Monticello’s midfielders set the table well for Garrett and Arriaga-Ruiz in the attack, with junior Jacob Messinger tallying five assists while senior Shawn Jones dished out four assists. Jones also had a goal while Messinger scored twice. Jack Eberl, Samuel Messinger and Curt Huffman had a goal each each for Monticello.

Monticello’s Tyler Cowgill had seven saves in the cage.

For Fluvanna County, Joe Sawyer scored two goals while Danny Marshall and Chase Paschall had one goal each. Evan Crouch, one of the Flucos’ top attackmen had to suit up at goalie because the starting keeper was out and finished with six saves on the night.

The Mustangs will face Atlee on the road Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Region 4A semifinals.
