Keep Rolling: Blue Ridge boys win BRAC championship

Blue Ridge boys basketball is on a roll and they rode it all the way to a conference title.

On the strength of a huge Shanon Simango performance, the Barons beat Hargrave 78-61 to take home the Blue Ridge Athletic Conference championship.

Simango went for 25 points and 14 boards against the Tigers while leading the Barons to their eighth-straight victory.

The Barons went up early, taking a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and by halftime, they were up 10 and Blue Ridge closed out the win with a strong second half.

Kamren Martin stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Markus Robinson finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Cam Brewer had nine points and four assists.

Brewer and Simango earned first team All-BRAC honors while Martin was a second team pick.

Thanks in large part to their late season surge, the Barons earned the No. 4 seed in the VISAA Division I state tournament. They’ll get a bye in round one and host a state quarterfinal Wednesday night at home against the winner of the Bishop O’Connell/ St. Christopher’s first round game.
