Charlottesville girls soccer made a statement Monday night with an explosive Region 3C quarterfinal win over Fort Defiance — the Black Knights are going to be a tough out this postseason.
Charlottesville rolled 8-0 in the quarterfinals to put them a win away from a state tournament berth.
Elizabeth Burns notched a hat trick and Sophie Chen added two more as they traded goals for the first 43 minutes of the game while building a 5-0 lead over Fort Defiance.
After Burns struck first in the first half, Chen followed with her first before Burns scored again with 2:41 left in the first half.
Burns scored once more early in the second half and then Chen struck again to push the lead to 5-0 just three minutes into the second half.
The Black Knights will face off with Fluvanna County Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the region semifinals. Charlottesville won its two regular season meetings with the Flucos 1-0 and 4-2, with the 4-2 win coming two weeks ago at home.
