Louisa County shuts out Charlottesville

Sometimes it just comes down to who can get off the field on defense and who can’t.

Friday night when Louisa County and Charlottesville locked up and the Lions rolled to a 31-0 victory, Louisa finished off defensive possessions while the Black Knights just couldn’t seem to get off the field.

Louisa went 6-for-11 on third down conversions and another 2-for-3 on fourth downs while Charlottesville went 3-for-14 on third and four down chances.

Louisa built a 24-0 lead in the first half, with Landon Wilson ripping off a 55-yard touchdown run, Jordan Smith scoring from 17 yards out and Takai Comfort hauling in a 19-yard touchdown from Wilson. Wilson rushed for 85 yards on eight carries and threw for another 116 yards on just 4-for-8 passing. He tacked on a second touchdown toss in the third quarter with a 24-yard pass to Aidan Perry.

Smith rushed for 69 yards on 13 touches and Austin Talley picked up 49 yards on eight carries. The Lions had 333 total yards of offense including 219 yards on the ground. Jaylen Beach caught a pass from Wilson for 41 yards.

Stephen Dean gave the Lions’ defense a big boost with two interceptions. Caden Lundy booted a 40-yard field goal in the first quarter.

The Lions (4-1) will try and keep things rolling with a road trip to Monticello Friday while Charlottesville (1-4) get a bye week before heading to Goochland to take on the Bulldogs.
