Covenant girls soccer advances to BRC title game

Covenant girls soccer took care of business Thursday afternoon as the No. 1-seeded Eagles dropped Virginia Episcopal 4-0 to advance to the Blue Ridge Conference championship game.
The Eagles, who are ranked No. 2 in the VISAA Division II state rankings, will face North Cross Saturday at 4 p.m. in the title match.

“I was really proud of the way our girls possessed the ball today and how our team implemented what we’ve been working on, a multifaceted attacking strategy,” said Covenant coach Bryan Verbrugge. “We are happy to keep playing and move on to the BRC Finals.”

Isabella Conklin notched a hat trick to help spark the Eagles to the win and Stella Maton chipped in a goal of her own to round out the scoring against a VES squad that battled through some injuries but managed to take the fight to the Eagles throughout.

The showdown with North Cross Saturday is a rematch of a 5-4 Covenant win earlier this season, and will put two of the top four teams in VISAA Division II against one another as the Raiders are currently ranked No. 5 in the state.
