Woodberry’s Stone moves to the top of the Central Virginia record book

Already the proud owner of every passing record you can think of at Woodberry Forest, senior quarterback Lindell Stone has branched out and taken ownership of two broader records — both the career passing yards mark and the career touchdown passes mark in Central Virginia.

Both records were held by former Blue Ridge quarterback Chad Byers (2002-2007) who threw for 6,4472 yards and 75 touchdowns. Stone passed Byers’ seemingly unattainable record when he threw for 354 yards in a 63-12 win over Trinity Episcopal. This past weekend, Stone snagged the career touchdowns record when he threw five touchdown passes in a 43-7 win over Benedictine.

“Because of all the yards, the touchdowns it looks like it’s me doing all the work but it’s really the offensive line and receivers that have made any of this possible,” Stone said. “Those guys have stepped up so much. That happened last year going into my junior year and it’s changed everything.”

With three games to play (St. Christopher’s, Fork Union and Episcopal) Stone sits at 6,937 yards and 78 touchdowns. With his current season average of 354 yards per game and 4.1 touchdowns, it’s not out of the realm that he could break the 8,000 yard and 90 touchdown marks in a four year career that saw him miss substantial time during a breakout sophomore year.

“This passing game has developed into something that we’re known for now and I’m really proud of that,” Stone said. “I think it’s cool that this class with the one ahead and the one below us gets to leave this kind of legacy at Woodberry. That’s what excites me.”

Also worth noting is the unreal career that receiver Terrell Jana has put in just his second season with Woodberry. With a junior year where he amassed 1,082 receiving yards, Jana’s 929 yards so far put him at 2,011, good enough for a tie in fifth place with former St. Anne’s-Belfield star Jalen Harrison (2011-2015) who has 2,011. STAB’s Alex Asher (2003-2008) owns the career receiving mark with with 2,658. Jana is averaging 131 yards a game. Next above him is Madison’s Juan Brown (1998-1999) who sits in fourth at 2,197. While breaking Asher’s record would require more than 200 yards a game from here on out, Jana could realistically make a run at Monticello’s Richard Nelson (2002-2003) and Daniel Lieb (2004-2007) who sit in third and second respectively at 2,445 and 2,517.
