William Monroe falls in nailbiter to Brentsville

A few feet a different way was all that prevented William Monroe from winning its third-straight game. The Dragons missed a field goal at the end of regulation Friday and fell in a heartbreaker 7-6.

With both defenses locked in during a low scoring game, Monroe and Brentsville’s offenses both struggled to get things going. The Dragons finally got on the board late in the third quarter when Alex Kinsey found Jordan Gray for a touchdown, part of an 8-catch, 80-yard outing for Gray.

But a missed PAT left the Dragons in a hole during the fourth, with the final field goal attempt banging off the uprights.

Monroe outgained Brentsville 248 to 113 with Kinsey throwing for 146 yards on 18-for-31 passing. Jaekwon Wayne had six catches for 32 yards and 18 yards rushing. Zach Miller had 14 yards rushing and a 34-yard catch.

Jake Cornwell led Brentsville with 77 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 touches.

Monroe will try and get back on track Friday on the road against Skyline.
